Light Body Relaxation Technique

Very useful if you are feeling very stressed out, or somehow 'threatened'. It may be helpful to read the instructions onto tape, and then play them back to yourself. It's a bit tricky at first (like most meditation is) but worth being patient.

Sit in a relaxed position with your, feet flat on the floor, and your eyes closed. Breathe slowly in through the nose, out through the mouth.

Imagine a bright, warm light seeping from the floor, up into the soles of your feet, healing and warming you. Imagine the light filling the feet, making them 'glow'. Move slowly up the body, stopping at each joint and visualising the part of the body glowing. (You have 33 vertebrae, if you have time, it is worth taking the time to stop at each one, and seeing the light spread from the bone, outwards to the skin.) Continue all the way up until your are 'full' and you visualise your whole body glowing with warm, healing light.

Spend a few moments here.

Now, imagine yourself in a situation where you feel 100% safe; a childhood bedroom, being hugged by Mum, whatever works for you. Try to remember all the sights, sounds, smells, etc that went along with that feeling of safety.

Spend a few minues there, then ( holding onto the visulaisation of your 'safe place) visualise the light slowly leaving your body. Ideally as slowly as you brought it in.

Have something to eat and drink.

After a few goes of reaching this 'safe place' you will be able to reach it quite quickly. In stressful situations you can 'superimpose' your safe place into the situation. E.g. If you are given a heap of work to do, put yourself into your safe place, and do the work from there. If you feel threatened by a person and situation, put yourself into the safe place, and envisage the 'light' forming a proctective circle around you, through whcih the treat cannot pass.
